Industrial Robotics Statistics (2026): 50+ Data Points on Installations, Robot Density, and Market Growth

Industrial robotics statistics 2026: 50+ data points on installations, robot density, cobots, and market size from IFR World Robotics, A3, and Interact Analysis.

Factories worldwide installed 542,000 industrial robots in 2024, more than double the number a decade earlier (IFR, World Robotics 2025). That was the fourth straight year above 500,000 units, pushing the global operational stock to 4,664,000 robots, a 9% annual gain. China alone accounted for 295,000 of those installs, or 54% of the world total, and for the first time its domestic suppliers outsold foreign brands at home. This analysis consolidates data from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), the Association for Advancing Automation (A3), Interact Analysis, Crunchbase, China’s National Bureau of Statistics, and 8 other primary sources into one reference set for 2026.

TL;DR

  • Global industrial robot installations hit 542,000 units in 2024, the fourth straight year above 500,000 (IFR, World Robotics 2025).
  • The worldwide operational stock reached 4,664,000 units, up 9% year over year (IFR, World Robotics 2025).
  • China installed 295,000 robots, about 54% of the global total and a record high (IFR, World Robotics 2025).
  • Chinese suppliers took 57% of their home market in 2024, beating foreign makers for the first time (IFR, World Robotics 2025).
  • South Korea leads robot density at 1,220 units per 10,000 employees, versus a global average of 132 (IFR, World Robotics 2025).
  • North American companies ordered 36,766 robots worth 2.25 billion dollars in 2025, up 6.6% in units (A3, 2025).
  • Collaborative robots made up 19.6% of North American robot orders in 2025 (A3, 2025).
  • Professional service robots reached nearly 200,000 units sold in 2024, up 9% (IFR, World Robotics 2025).
  • Amazon passed 1 million deployed warehouse robots by mid-2025 across more than 300 sites (Amazon via A3, 2025).
  • Robotics startups raised 15 billion dollars in 2025 and 18.8 billion year-to-date in 2026 (Crunchbase, 2026).
  • Interact Analysis logged a shipment metric near 505,000 units in 2024, down 2.4%, with a 5% recovery forecast for 2025 (Interact Analysis, 2025).
  • China’s industrial robot output reached 773,074 units in 2024, up 28% (China National Bureau of Statistics, 2025).

1. Global Installations and Operational Stock

Annual installations have settled into a half-million-unit plateau, but the installed base keeps compounding: the operational stock rose 9% in 2024 even as new demand cooled from the 2023 peak. The two headline sources measure slightly different things. The global operational stock reached 4,664,000 units, per the IFR, while Interact Analysis, which counts shipments rather than installations, recorded a narrower decline. Both agree the market is near an inflection point heading into 2026.

The gap between the IFR (global demand doubles over 10 years) and Interact Analysis counts reflects methodology, not disagreement: installations lag shipments, and the two firms scope regions differently.

2. Country and Regional Leaders

Asia captured 74% of all new deployments in 2024, and one country drove most of that. China installed 295,000 robots, a record and roughly 54% of the global total — more than the rest of the world combined. Every other major market contracted in units for the year, a sign that demand outside China softened before its expected 2025 rebound.

Europe as a whole fell 8% to 85,000 units, its second-highest total on record, with 80% (67,800 units) inside the EU, per the IFR World Robotics 2025 release.

3. Robot Density: Automation Intensity

Density — robots per 10,000 manufacturing employees — measures how deeply automation is embedded, independent of factory size. South Korea leads at 1,220 units, nearly nine times the global average of 132. China is the fastest climber among large economies, up 17% in a single year, while the United States ranks only eighth despite its heavily automated auto sector.

Regional density figures come from the IFR density report, presented April 8, 2026; the EU-27 average was 231 units.

4. Industries and Applications

Automotive is still the single largest buyer at 45% of global installs, but the story of 2024 is diversification. Electronics was the most robotized sector overall, with 128,899 units installed, and metal and machinery set a record. Robots are spreading into food processing, palletizing, welding, and smaller job shops, loosening automotive’s historic grip on the industry. This broadening matters for adjacent supply chains such as chipmaking; see our semiconductor industry statistics for the parts feeding these lines.

In the United States, automotive drove about 40% of new installs, per the IFR US auto release; metal and machinery (3,800 units) and electronics (2,900 units) trailed far behind.

5. Cobots, Mobile Robots, and Service Robots

Fixed arms are only part of the automation build-out. Collaborative robots, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and professional service robots are growing faster than the traditional base, and one buyer dominates the warehouse floor. Amazon crossed 1 million deployed robots by mid-2025, approaching parity with its roughly 1.2 million-strong operations workforce. Warehouse automation is a core driver here, tracked alongside our AI in retail statistics.

Robot-as-a-service fleets grew 31% in 2024 per the IFR service robots release; Amazon’s milestone was reported through A3 industry insights. AMR market-size estimates vary widely by firm and scope, so the range is flagged rather than a single figure.

6. Market Size, Prices, and Manufacturers

Dollar estimates for the industrial robotics market are the least reliable numbers in this report: they span 15.5 billion to more than 65 billion dollars for 2026 depending on whether a firm counts hardware only or bundles software, integration, and services. Unit economics are clearer and moving one direction — down. Prices keep falling as volumes scale and competition fragments the vendor field.

7. Investment and the Road Ahead

Capital is pouring into robotics faster than deployments are growing, concentrated in embodied AI. Robotics startups raised 15 billion dollars in 2025 and 18.8 billion in the first half of 2026 alone, already past the prior peak. About one in four of those dollars went to humanoids, a distinct category we cover separately in our humanoid robot statistics; the software brains behind these systems overlap with our AI agents statistics.
