4,380 networking products now support AES67, the standard that lets rival audio over IP (AoIP) systems exchange streams, yet 82% of surveyed broadcast professionals still run SDI (serial digital interface, the coaxial cabling standard of the pre-IP era) in their facilities. That gap is the whole story of AoIP in broadcasting in 2026: the equipment ecosystem has moved, and the plants have only partly followed. Use of SMPTE ST 2110, the suite of standards that carries video, audio and data as separate IP streams, rose to 30% of respondents in 2026 from 26% in 2025 (Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2026), while just 22% of broadcasters have IP in most of their operation (TV Tech, TVBEurope and Caretta Research IP Survey 2026). The same live-production chains that deliver events such as the Paralympic Games broadcasts are being rebuilt one control room at a time. We aggregated data from RH Consulting’s networked AV reports, four editions of Haivision’s Broadcast Transformation Report, the TV Tech, TVBEurope and Caretta Research survey, Audinate’s ASX filings, market-research estimates, and Olympic production disclosures.
TL;DR
- 5,158 Dante-enabled products were on the market at June 2026, and over 8 million Dante devices have shipped (Audinate FY26 Results 2026).
- 4,380 products were AES67-compatible in the 2024 count (RH Consulting Networked AV Report 2024).
- 30% of surveyed broadcast professionals use SMPTE ST 2110, up from 26% a year earlier (Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2026).
- 82% of the same respondents still use SDI (Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2026).
- SDI remains the primary infrastructure for 70% of broadcast and media companies (TV Tech, TVBEurope and Caretta Research IP Survey 2026).
- Revenue at Dante’s developer fell 33% to US$40.0 million in FY25 on OEM overstocking, then grew 14.9% to US$46.0 million in FY26 (Audinate Annual Report FY2025 and FY26 Results 2026).
- Budget constraints are the top obstacle to cloud adoption, cited by 48% of respondents (Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2025).
- The global AoIP market is estimated at USD 2,100 million in 2025, with broadcast at a 47.2% share (Metastat Insight AoIP Market Report 2026).
- OBS deployed 1,800 microphones for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics (OBS via TVBEurope 2026).
- NBC ran its Milano Cortina audio from 14 control rooms with about 128 audio engineers (Sports Video Group 2026).
1. Dante Adoption: Products, OEMs and Devices Shipped
4,131 Dante audio products were on the market in RH Consulting’s 2024 count, and the report found Dante outpaced all other protocols combined. For a broadcast engineer, that matters more than any standard document: when a microphone preamp, an intercom panel, a loudspeaker processor and a console stage box all ship with the same network port, the business case for an IP audio core writes itself. The installed base is now measured in millions of devices, not in pilot projects.
The pipeline is also deeper than the catalogue. Hundreds of OEMs (original equipment manufacturers, the companies that build the end products) are still developing their first or next Dante product. A “design win” in the developer’s reporting means a manufacturer has committed to building Dante into a new product, so design wins are the products that will reach studios over the next few years. The company’s figures are published through its investor centre, and the independent counts come from RH Consulting’s 2024 report as covered by audioXpress.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Dante-enabled products on the market at June 2026 (new products launched in FY26) and Dante devices shipped to date | 5,158 (555 new); over 8 million devices | Audinate FY26 Results 2026 |
| OEM brands shipping Dante products vs OEM brands still developing them (design wins in FY26) | 542 vs 229 (137) | Audinate FY26 Results 2026 |
| Dante audio products counted in the 2024 edition, and growth over the previous 12 months | 4,131 (+11%) | RH Consulting Networked AV Report 2024 |
| New Dante products and manufacturers adopting Dante for the first time, 2024 edition | 420 products, 45 manufacturers | RH Consulting Networked AV Report 2024 |
Context note: the two Dante product counts are not directly comparable. RH Consulting counts audio products at early 2024 with its own method, while the developer’s figure is its own tally of all Dante-enabled products at June 2026.
2. AES67 and the Protocol Landscape
AES67 is an interoperability standard from the Audio Engineering Society: it does not replace Dante, RAVENNA or Livewire+, it gives them a common format so one vendor’s network can exchange audio streams with another’s. 4,380 products were AES67-compatible in RH Consulting’s 2024 count, slightly more than the Dante audio products in the same edition. In practice, most networked audio gear can now talk across brand lines if the engineer configures it to, which weakens the vendor lock-in argument against an AoIP project.
Video is a different picture. Only 344 ST 2110 encoder and decoder products were counted in the same edition, a sign that the audio side of the IP transition is years ahead of the video side. The 2025 edition totals come from RH Consulting’s 2025 report as covered by LSi.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Networked AV products tracked (audio, video and control), 2024 edition | 6,013 from 602 brands | RH Consulting Networked AV Report 2024 |
| Networked AV products tracked, 2025 edition | 6,942 from 676 brands | RH Consulting Networked AV Report 2025 |
| Products compatible with AES67 (Dante, RAVENNA, Livewire+, WheatNet and native AES67) | 4,380 | RH Consulting Networked AV Report 2024 |
| SMPTE ST 2110 encoder and decoder products (NDI video products, for comparison) | 344 (494) | RH Consulting Networked AV Report 2024 |
| Livewire hardware partners worldwide (the radio AoIP platform of Telos Alliance, vendor’s own claim) | more than 115 | Telos Alliance partner release (undated) |
Context note: the Livewire figure comes from a Telos Alliance partner release and is a vendor figure, not an industry count. The 2025 RH Consulting edition reported no per-protocol product totals in its public coverage, so the 2024 counts remain the most recent available protocol-level data.
3. Broadcaster Migration: SDI Still Carries Most of the Load
82% of surveyed broadcast professionals still use SDI, even as ST 2110 use rose four points in the latest edition. The two numbers are not contradictory: most facilities are hybrid, with an IP core in one area and SDI everywhere else. Caretta Research’s Robert Ambrose describes it plainly in the 2026 survey: more than half of broadcast and media companies have deployed ST 2110, but it is most likely to be found in “IP islands”, meaning isolated rooms or projects rather than a whole building.
The question is no longer whether broadcasters will adopt IP, but how long the hybrid phase lasts. Master control rooms (the final switching point before a channel goes to air) are the first area to integrate IP and the most likely to be upgraded within 12 months, while news, in-venue production and OB trucks (outside broadcast vans) are least likely to have IP implementations, according to the TV Tech, TVBEurope and Caretta Research survey. Haivision’s trend line is in its 2026 report release.
| Metric | Value | Source |

| Respondents using SMPTE ST 2110, 2026 report vs 2025 report | 30% vs 26% | Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2026 |
| Respondents using SDI infrastructure, 2026 report | 82% | Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2026 |
| Respondents using ST 2110 vs NDI, 2024 report (814 responses) | 36% vs 40% | Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2024 |
| Respondents using ST 2110 vs NDI, 2023 report | 19% vs about 25% | Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2023 |
| Broadcast and media companies for which SDI is still the primary infrastructure | 70% | TV Tech, TVBEurope and Caretta Research IP Survey 2026 |
| Broadcaster respondents with IP deployed in most of their operation | 22% | TV Tech, TVBEurope and Caretta Research IP Survey 2026 |
| Respondents that had migrated at least part of their infrastructure to IP | 65% | Haivision Broadcast IP Transformation Report 2022 |
Outlier note: the Haivision ST 2110 series is not a clean trend. It jumps from 19% (2023 report) to 36% (2024 report) and falls back to 26% (2025 report) before reaching 30% (2026 report). Sample sizes changed from 814 responses in the 2024 edition to more than 1,300 in 2026, so read year-on-year changes as indicative. The 65% figure dates from 2022 and is the most recent available data for that specific question.
4. Why Migration Stalls: Buyers and Vendors See Different Projects
Almost half of buyers say the main outcome of IP infrastructure is added technical complexity, against only a quarter of suppliers. That single gap explains a lot of slow procurement cycles. Vendors sell efficiency, while broadcast engineers who have to keep a channel on air see a new layer of network timing, multicast routing and device registration to manage.
The cost side reinforces the caution. In Haivision’s 2025 survey of nearly 900 professionals in 110 countries, budget constraints were the top obstacle to cloud adoption, and the share of respondents running less than a quarter of their workflows in the cloud rose to 49% from 43%. Underused rooms make the economics worse: Caretta Research quotes one European public service broadcaster estimating its studio utilisation at less than 10% of available time, which is why software-defined, shared facilities are on the agenda (Advanced Television, 2025). Cloud figures are summarised in Haivision’s 2025 key takeaways.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Buyers vs suppliers who say the main outcome of IP is added technical complexity | almost half vs a quarter | TV Tech, TVBEurope and Caretta Research IP Survey 2026 |
| Buyers who prefer dedicated hardware appliances for live IP production | almost 50% | TV Tech, TVBEurope and Caretta Research IP Survey 2026 |
| Buyers vs vendors who rank business efficiency as the priority outcome of IP | 16% vs 39% | TV Tech, TVBEurope and Caretta Research IP Survey 2026 |
| Respondents using cloud-based workflows to any degree | 86% | Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2025 |
| Respondents running less than 25% of workflows in the cloud, 2025 vs 2024 | 49% vs 43% | Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2025 |
| Top obstacles to cloud adoption: budget constraints and network reliability | 48% and 37% | Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2025 |
| Studio utilisation estimated by one European public service broadcaster | less than 10% of available time | Caretta Research, Media Infrastructure Utilisation Matters 2025 |
Context note: COTS (commercial off-the-shelf servers) adoption is another expectation gap in the 2026 survey: suppliers believe 30% of customers deploy on COTS, while only 14% of customers say they do.
5. The Money Behind Dante: An Inventory Cycle, Then Recovery
Revenue at Dante’s developer fell 33% in FY25, even though the number of Dante products kept growing. The reason was not falling demand from studios but a supply-chain hangover: OEM customers had stocked up on Dante chips, cards and modules and delayed new orders while they worked through inventory. The FY2025 annual report filed with the ASX shows unit revenue from chips, cards and modules halving while software revenue rose, which is why gross margin went up in a year when sales went down.
Market-research estimates put a much larger number on the same ecosystem. Metastat Insight sizes the Dante-based segment of the AoIP market at USD 1,058.8 million for 2026, about 23 times the company’s FY26 revenue of US$46.0 million (1,058.8 / 46.0 = 23.0). Metastat does not explain how it values the segment; the most plausible reading is that it counts the value of finished products containing Dante, while the developer earns only on chips, modules, adaptors and software (Metastat Insight AoIP report page).
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue of the Dante developer, FY24 vs FY25 vs FY26 | US$60.0M vs US$40.0M (-33%) vs US$46.0M (+14.9%) | Audinate Annual Report FY2025 and FY26 Results 2026 |
| Gross margin, FY24 vs FY25 vs FY26 | 74.2% vs 82.1% vs 82.0% | Audinate Annual Report FY2025 and FY26 Results 2026 |
| Revenue from chips, cards and modules (units) vs revenue from software, FY24 to FY25 | A$66.2M to A$33.6M vs A$21.2M to A$23.5M | Audinate Annual Report FY2025 |
| Dante-based segment of the AoIP market, 2026 (market-research estimate) | USD 1,058.8 million | Metastat Insight AoIP Market Report 2026 |
| AES67-based segment of the AoIP market, 2026 (market-research estimate) | USD 471.5 million (20.2% share) | Metastat Insight AoIP Market Report 2026 |
Context note: the filings report revenue in both US and Australian dollars; the chips and software rows use the Australian dollar figures from the FY2025 annual report, so they do not add up to the US dollar totals.
6. Market Size Estimates: Wide Ranges, Thin Methodology
Metastat Insight estimates the AoIP market at USD 2,100 million in 2025, with broadcast as the largest application at a 47.2% share. Treat these numbers as directional: the publisher does not disclose its methodology, and market-research firms define “AoIP” differently (some include all networked loudspeakers and conferencing gear, some only professional production equipment).
A second firm measures a wider market. DataHorizzon Research sizes AV over IP, which bundles audio, video and control, at USD 3.4 billion for 2024. The two totals cannot be reconciled, and section 5 shows how far a segment estimate can sit from audited revenue. See the DataHorizzon AV over IP report page.

| North America share: AoIP market (2025) vs AV-over-IP market | 35.7% vs around 38% | Metastat Insight 2026; DataHorizzon Research 2025 |
Context note: the two firms measure different scopes (audio only vs audio, video and control), so their totals are not comparable. Both agree that North America is the largest region.
7. Live Production at Scale: The Olympics and a Station Rebuild
OBS deployed 1,800 microphones for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, feeding more than 990 multilateral feeds (the shared world signals every rights-holder receives) from the International Broadcast Centre over 2.1 Tbps of combined network capacity. At this scale, routing capacity and network bandwidth define the production as much as the consoles do. Figures come from TVBEurope’s coverage of OBS’s plans.
Rights-holders show the remote side of the same shift. NBC mixed its Olympic audio in Stamford, Connecticut, from 14 audio control rooms using a Calrec Impulse IP environment, with up to 16 channels of audio passed around the facility from a single venue and three announcer booths dedicated to audio description (Sports Video Group, 2026). Remote production has been the top technology priority for four years, named by 41% of respondents in 2026, and 54% now use cellular networks for live contribution, up from 46% (Haivision Broadcast Transformation Report 2026), which puts link quality on the same footing as studio wiring (cellular voice quality data).

| Microphones deployed by OBS at Milano Cortina 2026 | 1,800 | OBS via TVBEurope 2026 |
| Multilateral feeds processed and distributed from the International Broadcast Centre | over 990 | OBS via TVBEurope 2026 |
| OBS combined network capacity at Milano Cortina 2026 | 2.1 Tbps | OBS via TVBEurope 2026 |
| NBC audio control rooms for Milano Cortina 2026 (in trucks) | 14 (2) | Sports Video Group 2026 |
| NBC audio engineers on the Milano Cortina operation | about 128 | Sports Video Group 2026 |
| NBC off-tube announcer booths (commentary voiced from monitors in Stamford), Milano Cortina vs Paris 2024 | 17 vs 28 | Sports Video Group 2026 |
| Calrec consoles in NBC’s Impulse IP environment: Artemis, Argo M, Brio 12 | 6, 4, 1 | Sports Video Group 2026 |
| KPBS (San Diego) AES67 rebuild: control rooms, hybrid studio and control rooms, announce booths | 5, 2, 3 | Lawo and BeckTV case study (vendor) |
Context note: the KPBS figures come from a vendor case study and illustrate a typical public radio rebuild, not an industry average. As section 4 shows, buyers still see complexity as the main outcome of IP, so projects like this one depend as much on trained staff as on equipment.

- Vendor sources, labelled as such: Telos Alliance Livewire partner announcement; Lawo and BeckTV KPBS case study via Fast and Wide. Background on IP facility requirements: EBU Tech 3371, version 3.0 (2023).
- Data watch: the 2026 Caretta survey says more than half of broadcast and media companies have deployed ST 2110, while Haivision’s 2026 report puts ST 2110 use at 30% of respondents; the samples differ (Caretta weights toward broadcasters and vendors, Haivision toward a broad pool of broadcast professionals), and Caretta’s figure counts any deployment, including isolated IP islands. Haivision’s ST 2110 series (19%, 36%, 26%, 30% across the 2023 to 2026 reports) moves with sample changes and should not be read as a strict trend. Market-size estimates from Metastat Insight and DataHorizzon do not publish methodology and cover different scopes; the Dante segment estimate (USD 1,058.8 million) appears to value finished products rather than the developer’s own revenue, but Metastat does not say so. RH Consulting’s protocol-level counts are from the 2024 edition (most recent available data at protocol level); the 2025 edition coverage gives only totals. Telos Alliance’s Livewire partner count is undated in its release. Haivision’s 2027 report and the developer’s half-year results due in February 2027 will refresh the core series.
